Code sent to deleted Microsoft Outlook account

I was asked to retrieved a code sent to an old email account, in order to get onto my current email account. However, my old one has been deleted. There was an option to put in my phone number to retrieve the code, and I did this, but instead I was told that my phone number would be the security contact in a month's time. For now, everytime I put in a code, I'm still asked to retrieve it from my old deleted account, and therefore can no longer access my current inbox. I need to get onto my inbox, but no matter what I do it won't allow me. My old account, I can no longer access, it comes up with 'permission denied'. I don't understand what's happening, but for some reason, if I can't get onto an account that's over 7 years old and no longer used, I can't access my current one for a month, and then I'm still not sure. I'm no longer receiving codes by mobile phone, even when I ask for one. What do I do?
