What do you mean you allowed a spoof? A few different things you could be meaning. If you expand a little I am sure we can help you.

Received an email which purported to come from a friend requesting I click on a URL. Which I clicked on
The email had my given name and was signed by the supposed sender.

If this is a close friend, ask them if they have been compromised. It may be their PC was high-jacked and is send out spam to all in the address book. What are you using for an e-mail? Some have a feature that will let you see the full header info without opening it. I use this in Outlook when I see anything questionable. I have got e-mails from friends or people in my address book that I did not open. Why not? it was sent at 3:30 am. I know none of them would be up at that time. If in doubt, call them before opening.

I would immediately download & run Malwarebytes, and possibly even do a reset on Internet explorer (if that is your browser)

    Thanks I have installed Malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes is safe. I have used it for a long time when I have been called to help friends fix their computers. Another good one is MWAV. These two 'free' products tend to find things some of the other do not.It never hurts to run more than one because they may not all have the same definitions they are scanning for.

Always try MWAV in safe mode, you will get more fruitful result than normal run. Full scan & selection of all drives recommended.
