Change to ITKE web site affecting Firefox presentation

Oct 28, 2009 -- I use Firefox, have used Firefox exclusively for years.  Recently, when I access the ITKE web site with Firefox, the presentation is wrong, it is incomplete.  I am using IE right now and the presentation appears fine.

I suspect that some one changed your ITKE web site and snuck some IE specific code into your web pages.

I assume that this will be corrected.?

A possibility to consider….courtesy of Bob Rankin:

Firefox has always maintained that pages should render according to the standards established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). But Microsoft has long been castigated by the Web community for not adhering to those standards. So as long as Microsoft goes its own way, there will always be Web pages that look great in IE and horrible in other browsers, including Firefox. There is a workaround for this, however.

The IE View addon for Firefox will launch IE and display a Microsoftian page in it at the click of a mouse key. You can also tell IE View to always display a given page or all pages from a given Web site in IE. So when something doesn’t look or work right in Firefox, try it with IE View and IE 8.

    I use firefox (Ver 3.5.3) too, and have no problems with the site. Have you tried clearing the browser cache ?

    Funny. I decided to try with IE 8 and it doesn't look good. This is how I see it with IE: ITKE - IE 8

    Jenny, I sent via email the requested screen shots. carlosdl, My Firefox is set to automatically clear the cache at shut down which happens 2 or 3 times per week. But to ensure I followed your suggestion I manually cleared the cache with the same problem. AndreaF, Bob is correct in that MS has its own extensions to the standards. Yes, that is and will continue to be a problem. And yes, when using Firefox's "View page in IE tab" the page is rendered properly. I cannot seem to paste the screen print in here. Forgive me, I generally work on REAL computers (you know, whith GREEN SCREENS. Yes, I AM that old).

    By the way, while discussing this topic with a friend I happened to try Netscape version 8.1.3 and it appears to be both hunky & dory. Interesting stuff.

    JennyMack suggested checking NoScript and AdBlock add ons, both of which I use. Neither one has caused this trouble in the past. (I have NoScript set to allow 'techtarget.com') However, I completely disabled both add ons with no change in how the page is displayed. Apparently, this is unique to me. (which, somehow, is not surprising.)

    Well, its has been almost a month since I opened this thread and my problem still exists. I have upgraded Firefox. I have turned off Firefox addons. I have turned on the addons. I have shut down the PC. I have thrown the monitor against the wall. I have set fire to my desk. And my problem still exists. I can live with it. Like most things on PCs, it is just a pain in the a$$. My thanks to all to tried to help. Steve

    From the Original Poster... I FOUND THE SOLUTION - totally by accident. Firefox started throwing SSL errors on secure web pages. Lots of searching the web led me to "just re-install it" so I did. That did not help my SSL problem. So I did an uninstall (why can't we just say "remove?") and a fresh install of Firefox. And my SSL problem went away. AND WHEN I VISITED ITKE WITH MY NEWLY INSTALLED FIREFOX, LO AND BEHOLD, EVERYTHING HERE WORKS LIKE IT USED TO. I've been a programmer (and analyst and software guy and DBA) since 1974 and I just do not understand why we tolerate this sort of behaviour with PCs and PC programs. If it doesn't work, reboot. If it still doesn't work, reinstall the software or even the OS. Good Grief. If this was tolerated on a mainframe, no one would use a computer. Oh my, this CICS program just quit working. I guess I better IPL the system out from under thousands of users. Oh, that did not fix the problem. I guess I will just reinstall CICS, and maybe DB2 and IMS for good measure. </end rant>
