On my HP laptop, I cannot start a Wi-Fi hotspot. When I look at my command prompt, it says that the hosted network is not supported. Is that the cause? If so, how can I fix this? Thank you.

What OS is there? If it is Windows 10 and you updated recently, please check if there is any pending update. If it is there, please do the job complete. Also open settings > network > mobile hotspot and it is necessary to check all the settings there. Turn it on, to get set up your network. You can run network troubleshooter to get more help.

Also you can uninstall the Wi-Fi driver and next to reboot and let windows to setup by itself. Sometime this procedure helpful to overcome this type of issue.
