I have this CSV file that I can't import into Microsoft Excel. This is driving me insane! I keep getting this message: Unable to open XXX. Cannot download the information you requested. It's showing up in the preview screen. What can I do? I'm on Excel 2016. Thanks.

If this CSV is a file you did not create, I am going to say it may be an authority or security issue on the file. Is may be protected from copy, read only or something else.

First double click the file & check if that opens correctly. You can try this one, in Excel, click File > Options > Trust Center >Trust Center Settings > Trusted Locations & check or select the "Allow Trusted Locations on my network" box. After that again try the same.

Moreover, first you take a backup of your original CSV file. Now try to change the CSV file extension to .txt that means, when open this .txt file with Excel it starts the text file import wizard where you can choose the delimiter. Or try to replace all commas with semicolons in this CSV file in a text editor.

But keep in mind, first of all take a backup of the original CSV file.

You did not mention where you are importing the file from. Is it from another system like an AS/400 or different OS?
