I recently purchased and installed a new router. When I try to connect to it through Wi-Fi, nothing works. But when I use an ethernet cable, it works fine. Did I not set it up properly? Any ideas would be helpful - I'm very confused

Yeah, what ToddN2000 said. It should be pretty straightforward. There are probably instructions that came with it or that you can look up online. Worst case, contact their tech support and see how they can help you.

What brand and model did you purchase? Most router will have you make a cable connection and go to a specific web address to set up the router and the password to be used to connect.

Who did setup the router when it carried first at your place? Is there a technical person from the vendor's side or you did it yourself? Are you sure this is configured properly? You can check with SSID is a technical term when Wi-Fi network involved. This is the identifier (name) that tells you which service set (or network) to join.
