Hello, I'm in need of a security expert. I believe my Windows 7 computer is infected with a virus but I'm not entirely sure. If I put a USB into my machine, can the virus / malware takes my files from it? Thank you.

Yes, it can.  Any system can be infected from an infected USB Drive or Memory Chip. Your A/V and Antimalware software should be set to scan all USB ports and Memory Cards upon insertion of a USB Drive or Memory Card.  You will need to get a reputable A/V and Antimalware product and do a through scan of your system to remove the virus or viruses.  You may have to take the system and have the viruses / malware removed professionally.

Yes and it can also cause a virus to spread. If you have a virus, it may install itself on the USB and infect any computer you plug it into. Viruses can do many things, it all depends on the code behind it.

What did you mean by takes files? No, the files might infected/damaged by the virus. The files might not be readable Or somehow deleted/disappeared. It is better to use MWAV (a free scan/ clean tool) in safe mode and make sure about that. However, is there any AV already installed?

If you mean access your files then, yes, that can happen. Once malware gets onto a computer, anything is fair game including other systems that are on the same network.

Also check, if any anti virus is installed, if this one already affected by external virus. If this happened, this is serious and you have to uninstall/update the same through online.
