You need a basic understanding of how operating systems, databases, and networks work.

Then you will need specific knowledge about the specific IT area you plan to pursue.

What IT area do you feel more attracted to?

Is there a specific area you are interested in? Some people start their career by getting an inter position in an IT department working on a help desk or other area. This way they can develop other skills that cover a lot of other areas that really benefit from hands on experience.

You need to know at least few programming languages like C, C++, Java. Basic knowledge of Linux will be an additional plus point.
