I have a cable modem with wifi connect to one side of my house. I would like to run an Ethernet cable going to an access point in the other side of the house. I'm using the access point just to extend the wifi. Repeaters or extenders don't work becaus of all of the walls.

If the cable modem has an available Ethernet port, there shouldn't be any problem with doing so. It's not how I'd do it, but it should be fine if it fits your need. I'd put at least a switch between the two to have more available ports.
