I was infected with a keylogger trojan on a brand new computer. The only thing I had done on that laptop online was download a video from someone's Instagram. Can someone bind a keylogger to a video and upload it to Instagram? If they can and I downloaded it, would I be infected?

Software/Hardware used:
Windows 10, HP laptop

If you download a file having malicious software, what happens next depends on many factors, including:-

1) Whether or not your system is running an anti-malware application.
2) Whether or not the anti-malware app is updated & properly configured.
3) Whether or not the malware is already recognised in the signature of the anti-malware app, or is part of a ‘zero day’ attack.
4) Whether or not your system has Data Execution Protection (DEP) set up.
(Please verify all of this, before seeking a full answer to your question.)

It is not possible to upload a infected file in any form on instagram. Before uploading the sever scans the file. Why are you asking this, is your system does not have an anti virus. If it is installed and properly configured, when you try to downloading an infected file, the anti virus never allow to download/install. If you have doubt, you can run an anti virus to scan/clean viruses.

I see your list as a separate question. I just want to know if it's possible for someone to load an infected file onto IG and if I can get infected by downloading or viewing it. I don't see a point to getting int the rest if the answer/s is/are "No."

Thank you, Subhendu Sen. Yes, my system had/has antivirus protection. But I also know that some keyloggers aren't detectable by standard antivirus packages. I have dealt with the problem that happened. I just wanted to eliminate the video from IG as the source of it.

Download MWAV (an emergency scan/clean tool and free) and reboot the system in safe mode without network. Now after login, run this utility and it has capability to clean these type of viruses, of any.

I personally have not heard of a key logger being attached to a video. If you think this is where it came from notify the IG account you got the video from. If you used a 3rd party tool to get the video, it may be that is what loaded the key logger.
