When you say data, what are you looking too for comparison, other memory such as RAM, or disk storage?

Clearing cache will not delete any files you have downloaded. The files are stored in a folder, most likely DOWNLOADS, unless you changed the default used by the browser. Cache just like RAM, it will get cleared when you shut your computer down. It's just a temporary holding space in memory for quick access. Things like your browser history are actually stored on your computer in a temp folder. These can be cleared a number of way and may be browser specific.
