IS this an actual pop-up to install Java or is it to update Java? You may already have Java on your machine. Click on Start > control panel > programs and see if Java is there. If it's there installing the update should stop the pop-up. These updates are not really considered an ad and will not be affected by a pop-up blocker.

As ToddN2000 asked, what exactly is the "Pop-up" asking you to do? If it is for Java itself, then it should not be ignored. Further, if it is for a Java update and ignoring it causes some sites not to work, your only alternative is not to use those sites until you finally do the update.

If the "pop-up" is for something other than for Java itself, we can't give useful advice until we at least know what it's asking about.
