For the past two days or so, I've been trying to reorganize all of the media (images, videos) on my NAS. It's actually a ReadyNAS. I'm trying to do it through Windows Explorer but it's just really too slow for me. How can I speed this up? Basically I'm moving different media into files, folders, etc. Thank you.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I have found that disabling real-time anti-malware protection – or setting up folder/file exclusions – is a good way to speed things up.

Are you just moving them to a different folder on the NAS or another device?

It's not clear what you mean by "too slow". Are you too slow? Or do the files copy slowly?

Also, if you feel it's making you slow because it's cumbersome, please describe the structures on both sides of the copy. Unless the data movement itself is slow for some reason, there might be nothing to do that speeds it up other than practice.

Another question is how many files are we talking and how large are they? More specifics on the actual move process may help us in determining a bottleneck if there is one.

Yes, more information is needed. How large the files? You mentioned best, so what other software are running there? Have you checked MSCONFIG? Open Task Manager and check what other processes/services are running during the copy.
