Open the excel file, click file menu and open save as, select text (tab delimited) option. Where you can save an excel file in text file format. A good article is here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Import-or-export-text-txt-or-csv-files-5250ac4c-663c-47ce-937b-339e391393ba

Follow Subhendu's suggestion. If you do not save it as a text, tab delimited, it will be very hard to work with after the fact. All the data will have to be parsed out manually and if the is no delimiter, it's next to impossible. What is the purpose of saving it as a flat file? You may have other alternatives available?
