To become exceptional in tech or information technology, what basic knowledge does one need?

Since there are so many different areas in IT, the questions is too broad.

Yet, in my opinion, the answer is the same for any position (IT or other),

Find a area where you really enjoy and are happy to go to work. If it is fun, you will be more aggressive to continue learning more about what you do. If it is technical, you should enjoy logic puzzles, if it is IT customer service, you should enjoy interacting with people.

If you are excited to go to work, you will be exceptional.

    In IT/ Computer field there are various areas as you may become an expert. But if you want to become an expert/ exceptional, you must have solid knowledge/ problem solving ability in the same area.
