Audio on Dell Inspiron laptop seems to be broken or damaged

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron touch-screen laptop brand new. For some reason, the audio on it has been acting really weird as of about a week. I went to watch a YouTube video on the laptop and the music and special effect noises of the video were really loud and garbled, but the speaking was soft a muffled. I thought it might just be a fluke with the video because this happened once on my old laptop and it just went away. But it hasn't gone away on the Dell Inspiron. It does this on YouTube videos and Netflix videos and I recently tried watching a video from Tumblr and I couldn't get any audio at all. This makes it really hard to watch and understand videos since the music is so loud and clunky and the speaking is so soft. Please help! This laptop is brand new and just bought about a month ago. I hate to see something wrong with it already.

There are several possibilities here.  Firstly, I would check the sound card drivers to make sure that they are installed properly.  This would include going and getting updated drivers for the sound card, and do not use the the generic windows drivers.  If you are using the windows generic drivers, that could be causing the issues.  Next, the onboard speakers usually are very, very poor quality.  I would try plugging external speakers to your system to see if that improves the quality.  It did on mine.  Next, most of streaming video / audio systems use the flash player plugin and that could also be an issue.  Make sure that is current in the browser that you are using, because that is used in conjunction with the actual audio card in your system.  Lastly, it is entirely possible that you got a lemon of an audio card in your laptop.  Since most audio cards are built into the system board, and cannot be replaced with out replacing the system board, you may have to contact Dell to have the system board replaced.

Definitely sounds like a driver problem. If you have access to another computer, try the same video. It is possible that the video is corrupt. Then again you said it's happening with Netflix so I am leaning towards a driver. Make sure you have the latest and if you have any audio mixing/equalizer settings that make the audio distorted.
