I have an ASP.NET web solution, which includes thousands of images. I also get a pretty good amount of traffic to it too. But I'm worried about its performance and here's my question: Should I store my images in a database or a file system? Appreciate the help.

    It really depends.

If the database allows you store images and can work efficiently with them, then it can be a good option.  You would only need to worry about taking backups of the database, without any additional file administration tasks.

Oracle has several options for storing large amounts of data as in the case of images.  You can choose between storing the BLOBs directly in the database, or only storing a pointer in the database, but letting the database handle the additional files administration.

    What database are you using?

I agree with Carlosdl, both have their advantages and disadvantages. Is this a live application or in development stages?
