Purchased office building - have two AS/400 servers in it a few tape libraries, and an IBM Magstar MP 3570 Tapo5 - are these possible to resell? Is there a market for them? I was told they used to be real valuable, but wondering where they would be in today's market. Thanks.

There used to be a market for them and I think there still is, but I do not think that the prices offered there are in line with prices for new models. It will depend on the type and models of the machines.

Thank you - appreciate your reply. Do you know who I would be able to contact (potential buyers) for these items? I have the serial numbers etc if they would need. Thanks, Harry

Check the internet for second hand iSeries or system i. That would give you several options depending on your location.

How old is the equipment? I might be interested in buying it myself.

Hi Greg- I'm really not sure of the age, but I think it's older. I am actually headed to the building around noon today to get a better inventory list. As of now two ibm as/400e servers (serial number on one is S3575100002615 - maybe that helps with the age) a few ibm 3757 l24 tape library's, IBM magstar mp 3570 Tapo5, and then a lot of older mainboards in original boxes (asus super socket 7), canon, xerox, and Hp printers/copiers (most new, but older versions), and hundreds of boxes of parts. I'm not sure about the age of everything as the printers look new, but the servers might be a bit older. Let me know if you would be interested and I can grab more serial numbers etc for you today. Thanks Harry

Harry, I may have been overly enthusiastic - I'm in Sydney, Australia. If you are anywhere else on the planet then freight costs are likely to be more than the equipment is worth. If you are in Sydney however, serial numbers won't tell me much - better would be model or OS version. I'm after something that can run the later releases, so Power7 minimum, Power8 would be better.
