AS/400 Training

AS/400 training
I am in an IT analyst position where I have to support a department that uses an AS400-based case management system. The vendor handles most of the maintenance, but I would like to know more about the AS400 in general, in order to support daily operations and user requests. Looking for an online or CBT-based training. Does anyone have any recommendations?

there are still I.T. training schools offering as/400 training. Personally, i find IBM’s knowledge database helpful.  https://www-912.ibm.com/systems/electronic/support/s_dir/slkbase.nsf/slkbase

First, what is the OS version of the system? Any number of tutorial/training sources show examples that come from version 3 or earlier. And while those generally hold true, they're often like learning about auto maintenance without clear info on OBD II scanners and diagnostic.

If you're intending to do a lot of maintenance on a lot of customer cars, digging into manual details gives a wide and deep understanding that covers many environments. But if you're only working on a single car or a related group, and you're going in at a controlled learning pace, you should focus on what you have. Later, you might choose to expand.

The SKB is a useful resource, but I don't see it as a general learning tool. Better would be the Information Center, probably starting with Basic system operations.

IBM's information center and the Redbooks are a good source of information. They are not the most enjoyable things to read but you get a lot of good solid info. If you still need help in a particular area check out some i-Series forums and tech sites like this one ITKE. They are a great place to get info from people who have been in it for years.
