Our tape drive has been issuing error messages. Last week it required cleaning and we found one new tape to be defective. Today's error indicates t he tape drive is not available because another task is using the tape drive. This is not the case, any fixes out there?
Hi,
Will you be more clear description. I didnt get u exactly wat do you mean by fixes.
And, When it comes to today error, You need to check whether any other program/application is using the Tape. If it is being used by another application, we will not be able to access it paralally.
Will you give the clear description about the last week error?
Pradeep.
Today's error indicates t he tape drive is not available because another task is using the tape drive.
What are the "messages"? In particular, what are the message identifiers?
Where do you see the error? What is running when the error appears?
Tom
Another task is using the tape drive means another user is accessing the tape drive either by simply DSPTAP, or saving data on tape etc.
Try the command WRKCFGSTS *DEV TAP* and see if you have more than one device active(incase your tape device started with TAP???)
Syed.
Also check WRKHDWRSC *STG. If you cannot do a vary on of your device it may not be reporting to the system correctly. If this is the case you caould try powering the device off and than back on. Via STRSST you might need to do an IOP reset.
