Any way to limit color choice for background?

I discovered a user who set the background color of his RF device to RED. Of course, most error/info messages are in RED, so he mostly can't see them. Is there a way to restrict or override the user's background color? I have no info on the device being used - hoping I can do something programmatically in the DDS.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

For me I find it easier to change the color of the font. When I’m using Client Access I have the LIVE production session set to one color and Test is another. This way I can tell at a glance what system I’m on. I suppose I could just look at the title of the Window to tell as long as it was set up properly to show the sessions name. I still leave the background black, it’s easier on the eyes and makes any reverse image text stand out more. For devices running 5250 emulation without Client Access or Windows for  unique sessions, this method would most likely not work.

I don't think you can control the PC settings from the iSeries side. Maybe you could add some text in the Normal Background color so it would pop up when the user changes the background to something else...

If you can find out the type of device is you may be able to find a manual online. We used to use a lot of devices by Symbol. They are not that easy to change setting unless you know what you are doing. I wonder how the user managed to make the change. If it is an issue that keeps happening, and you can't do it via a DDS (which I do not think will work) you may have to notify a supervisor if the errors are being missed because the user is changing the color.

a little off topic, but wouldn't a red BACKGROUND be extremely tiring on the eyes after an 8hr shift

I agree that a RED background would not be my choice.

It turns out that this user was actually on his desktop for this and not the RF gun. Still an issue (unable to read messages). Our I.T. operations folks auto-set the background to RED when in the TEST system (user was helping us test). So I met with them today and they agreed to use Pink instead (for TEST system).

Thanks for the good ideas here. I can use some of them for other situations.
