Sounds like a homework question. Are there any specifics to creating a code crawler that you are concerned with?

This is a java based and works more like a search engine- for more info, please navigate here: http://codecrawler.sourceforge.net/

Hard to tell what the reason is for the question, but maybe it's harder to know how to answer. Without knowing what a "code crawler" would be used for, advantages might or might not exist. They might even be disadvantages in other cases.

The only well-known code crawler that I know of is the OWASP Code Crawler. Though it's open source, is able to review some particular language environments and can be extended for new environments, it might not be advantageous in those new environments. If it takes a couple months to train an instance to be reliably useful, it'd be a waste of time if manual review only took six weeks.

In order to answer usefully,  the intended environment should first be described. That would include languages and platforms, volume of code to be reviewed, and the general structure of staff.

Outside of that, an answer can only be practically the same as for every automated process.
