Adding a VPN Router to existing Apple network

I have an Apple time capsule (main router) and an Ethernet cable connecting it to another Apple extreme on the other end of the house.
I want to add a VPN router to the mix (I purchased an ASUS RT N66u). I'd like to add something like DD-wrt firmware to this? My reasoning is because the Apple routers do not allow the VPN to be configured on them.
My question is, how can I add this device easily? I tried Apple support, Nord VPN support. There are just too many different components.

Software/Hardware used:
NordVPN, Asus RT-N66U

Time Capsules do have a VPN option, but it is not intended for use such type of VPN service providers. This VPN option is limited to PPTP/L2TP & not for Open VPN. You can add internal VPN client functionality within enhanced firmware alongside PPTP/L2TP setup options.
