Hello guys,
i have a windows server with 20 clients network connected to it.
i want to demote the domain (remove domain) from this network and make it instead workgroup.

Can it be removed directly from the server without going into each computer(clients) and remove it one by one?

After demoting the Domain from the server, what happens to the clients connected on the network?

You wrote a good information. But have you a good plan to take all necessary backups? Have you taken a good measure for any loss? Why are you going to remove the domain? What is the issue behind to convert it to Workgroup? Please provide more details.

My days doing administrative tasks on Windows networks are long gone,  but I suppose you can remove the computers from the domain by means of a group policy, so when you actually demote the controller, no computer is part of the domain.
