Plug laptop into AC power adapter

I was updating my laptop when I noticed that the installer asked me to plug my laptop into an AC power adapter. I've done some research but I don't really understand the concept. Here's my question: is the charger that plugs into the wall and charges my laptop (which came with my laptop) the AC adapter? I don't want to proceed with the update until I know.

Yes. They just want to make sure the update does not fail due to the battery losing power and shutting your system down during the update process. A failed Windows update can be a real nightmare to recover from.

What OS is there? If it is windows, are you sure that, all the updates are completed properly. Please check if there is any pending update in update history? If your home electricity is under AC power then obviously it is AC power. Else the laptop adapter does not respond.
