CEH means Certified Ethical Hacker (everything in IT has a certification these days).  It basically means you paid a lot of money to prove you can answer questions on how to be an ethical hacker/security person.

Being a software engineer and a IT security expert don’t typically cross paths, but if you want to the best thing to do is learn programming/scripting, contribute to security tools, and find ways to solve your own problems.  Even if you “reinvent the wheel”, the experience and being able to showcase you know concepts matters more.

Have you looked at your local college/university? They have career counselors that can point you in the right direction. You mentioned you are already a student, have you checked out your own school for guidance? Those are two broad educational paths. What is your end goal? Do you want to develop security applications?

Learn, learn, learn all you can. If you can develop you can do a LOT with security. There are too many people in our field that have never written a line of code or worked at a command prompt. Just make sure you balance your technical knowledge with good communication skills and business sense.

Here are some resources to help you get started:

    Best of luck!

Even though you are Commerce student that doesn't mean that you'll work related to your course. If there's something you really want start studying and you'll succeed.
