Did You Know That HP Is A Networking Company?

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
Autonomy, ESSN, Hewlett-Packard, HP, Networking, ProCurve, ProLiant

Thus it has always been so - HP networking, AKA ProCurve in the "old days", has been a success in spite of its "parent" company and, today, amidst the doom and gloom financial results the company has posted, and all the Autonomy naming, blaming and shaming going on, I couldn't help but help notice...

What’s Next To Virtualise? The Network Of Course…

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
Cloud Computing, HP, information technology, Mobile, Networking, ProCurve, VAN, Virtualization, Wireless

Wore my journalist hat yesterday to attend an HP update event on its ESSN division (don't worry about what the initials stand for, but N is for Networking...).

While not the key focus of yesterday's blurb, the key thing for me to take from the event was...

Le colis est arriveé!

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead

Anyone who read my previous installment of the soap opera that is and was FedEx's inexplicable failure to deliver a parcel of HP goodies (one of which is for me to test) should be pleased to know...

The package has finally arrived - in Grenoble at HP EMEA HQ that is, not with me...

Still Summer – Still Cloudy…

It's a very interesting scenario when you work for yourself and summer arrives.

People go on holiday. Which is very annoying when:

a) You're trying to finalise dates for the next series of test projects and
b) You're looking for news in the networking world to blog...

Bye Bye Nortel – Bye Bye Bay – Bye Bye Avaya? Bye Bye Vista!

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
Avaya, Broadband, Broadband-Testing, Nortel, ProCurve, VoIP, Voipex

So it looks like the Enterprise networking division of Nortel is going to Avaya after all.

Shame, 'cos I really liked the idea of it being bought out and Bay Networks being reinvented - from an original idea by (ex-ProCurve) John McHugh, who took over the ailing (been waiting years to...

Swapping Staff For Vendor Partners

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
Cisco, Collaboration, HP, jetNEXUS, Microsoft, ProCurve, Unified

Interesting to see that, just as HP announces more job losses - see front page of CW today - amounting to 6,400 in addition to the 7,500 announced last Autumn, at the same time HP is jointly investing $180m in association with Microsoft to create a complete unified comms and collaboration...

Broadband Wideboys?

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
Broadband, ftth, IPTV, jetNEXUS, NetMotion, ProCurve, Virgin, WLAN

Interesting to hear that Virgin is piloting 200-400Mbps Broadband (in Kent, so they be hopful of a good result (bad spelling makes bad gags) without really knowing what applications it will be used for.

Here in Andorra they've also been rolling out FTTH and have that great application...

Who Really Owns The 802.11 In Your WiFi?

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
802.11n, D-Link, Dell, HP, Infra-Red, Microsoft, ProCurve, RF, Supergold, WLAN

Interesting news from our friend HP (especially since I'm testing ProCurve newly acquired from Colubris WLAN controller) in that it has settled confidentially with Australia's science agency CSIRO which has a longstanding patent claim against many of the well-known WLAN product vendors.
