Of Acquisitions And Integration

ASP, Brocade, Compliance, Dell, EMC, HP, IBM, iPaaS, Microsoft, Network management, Network monitoring, Networkiing, Outsourcing, PaaS, SaaS, Security, SolarWinds, TIBCO, VM, VMware

The IT world has gone acquisition bonkers. Dell is paying as much for EMC as any football club would do to secure the combined services of Messi and Ronaldo. Well almost...

Meantime, a couple of companies I keep tabs on have also been in acquisition...

Shock – WiFi Actually Generating Revenue Streams

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead

I recently had the "pleasure" of visiting Milton Keynes; the railway station was packed with what were surely tourists - some mistake here? Admittedly, all looking in a hurry to get back to London... does "Stratford-Upon-Avon" translate aurally as "Milton Keynes" in some languages?

Shopping In A WiFi Cloud…

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
application, Application Programming Interface, cloud, HP, openflow, Sdm, Tallac, Wi-Fi, Wifi

"Cloud" and "WLAN" or "WiFi" are not, to date, IT terms that are typically seen in tandem, but Tallac Systems, a new venture for a number of ex HP er, yes - let's say it - veterans (I reckon I can out-run you guys if necessary) are looking to create one from t'other.

Some of...

Next Gen Network Management

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
CA, Cloud Computing, HP, IBM, IBM Tivoli, Moogsoft, Network management, Virtualisation

IT and networking reinvents itself partially or wholly every few years, and here we are again now - distributed, virtualised, cloud (private and public) based, hybrid networks... So where does this leave traditional Network Management (NetMan) applications?

Every few...

Anything New For 2013?

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
cloud, Data communications, HP, openflow, SDN, ViBE, Voipex

So here we are, already several weeks into 2013 and is there anything new to report on the networking front?

Not really - currently the same stories as we've been hearing for the past year or two - SDN, Cloud etc.... I am, at least, about to put some element of cloud to the...

Did You Know That HP Is A Networking Company?

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
Autonomy, ESSN, Hewlett-Packard, HP, Networking, ProCurve, ProLiant

Thus it has always been so - HP networking, AKA ProCurve in the "old days", has been a success in spite of its "parent" company and, today, amidst the doom and gloom financial results the company has posted, and all the Autonomy naming, blaming and shaming going on, I couldn't help but help notice...

Physical Software Defined Networking…

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
data-centre, HP, Netevents, SDN, SDN controller, VAN

Following on from last week's OD of SDN at Netevents, we have some proper, physical (ironically) SDN presence in the launch of an SDN controller from HP.

IT Is Prawn Cocktail ?

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead

Bem Vindo from the Algarve, at the latest Netevents symposium.

One of my favourite topics in networking (and IT in general) is how often we revisit old "recipes". In the same way that prawn cocktail has become trendy again, so it is with networking and Netevents. Two panel...

At The End Of The Network

Optimisation Springs To Life

Steve Broadhead Steve Broadhead Profile: Steve Broadhead
ADC, Application monitoring, Centrix, F5, HP, jetNEXUS, Kemp, L-B, Network management

It's been a busy old Spring so far - I'm still trying to get my head around the recession - IT is going bonkers, spending like the world is about to end (does somebody know something we don't?), every flight I take from wherever to wherever is full and when I take a few days...
