US Navy offers pocket rocket guidance

Cliff Saran Profile: Cliff Saran

Now here’s our top pick for the gadget of the week. The US Navy has developed the Low-Cost Imaging Terminal Seeker (LCITS). Basically this a low-cost guidance capability that it says will greatly improve the tactical viability of an unguided 2.75-inch rocket by providing it with an inertial and imaging infrared guidance subsystem. The US Navy says the LCITS provides a fire-and-forget capability that will potentially reduce the target engagement timeline to less than 15 seconds. Seems like the perfect solution for road rage. Can’t wait until they do the iPhone App.
