Too much information is a very frightening thing

Downtime is worried about the transparency created by technology. On a recent train journey from London to Horsham, the driver left his PA system switched on while he held a conversation with a colleague about a signal he had just misunderstood and ignored as a result. Hundreds of passengers were reassured when they overhead him say, “What the f*** was that signal all about? Oh, I’ll just ignore it.”

Although it’s good that train drivers are taking security seriously, I think passengers would feel safer if they were not given such an insight into these procedures.
