Less than a week passed before Google responded to Downtime’s prod to stop censoring search results delivered to Chinese web users.
Well, we’d like to claim the credit, but we suspect it might have more to do with attacks from China on the email inboxes of Chinese human rights activiists that use Google Mail.
But fair play to Google. If someone now wants to nominate CEO Eric Schmidt for for Google’s own competition for spreading the word about freedom of expression, Downtime will second it. But we would hope that Eric would modestly decline the nomination due to the origins of his Damascene conversion.
