Bionic Man

At the moment it feels like there’s plenty to keep us glum about the future. The economy remains stagnant, youth unemployment is at an all-time high, spending cuts to public services are yet to be fully felt, and just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse a new series of Britain’s Got Talent is about to hit our screens.

So the remarkable story of an 83-year-old woman receiving a transplant jaw made by 3D printer has provided some cheer in for an otherwise gloomy outlook.

Downtime hopes that in the future all body parts will be replaced using this method to enable a more prolonged, better quality of life. Printable livers would be a particularly welcome move here. However, we might skip on printable eyes and ears if reality TV shows such as BGT are still being aired.
