Smart pen!

Raj Perumal Raj Perumal Profile: Raj Perumal

Hi folks! So following up on my latest kick with Evernote, I ordered one of those smart pens that integrates with it. It’s called Livescribe!

Livescribe is a company that makes a pen that allows you to take notes on specially printed paper and then takes those notes and matches them up with audio that the pen records in the meeting. You can tap on your notes in your notebook and the pen will playback the audio from that point in the meeting.

It is one of the coolest devices I have ever seen and it also integrates with Evernote. You can also buy the MyScript for Livescribe software that does OCR on the notes taken as well.

You can watch all the Livescribe demo videos here.

Genius Scan

Raj Perumal Raj Perumal Profile: Raj Perumal

Hi folks! In a previous blog post I spoke about Evernote! A great note taking utility. Well there is this great app that goes with it called Genius Scan!

If you are taking notes with a normal pen and paper or if you are in a meeting where you are whiteboarding something, you can take a picture with your phone and then it will basically scan the image and you can suck that image into Evernote.

Then you can use that Evernote to search the information in that text! Now that’s handy! So give it a whirl and see what you think!

Save battery life on your iPhone

Raj Perumal Raj Perumal Profile: Raj Perumal

Hi folks! If you are like me, you use your iPhone for everything! I consider it a tool in my computer consultant repertoire that I use to get my work done.

I can use it for pretty much anything. However when you use something that much, you obviously will have concerns about battery life usage. Well Auto3G is an app that automatically switches off your 3G when you are not using your phone so you save on battery power.

Auto3G is an app you can get from Cydia if you jailbreak your iPhone. If you have a jailbroken iPhone I encourage you to go out and get it now!

Note taking with Evernote

Raj Perumal Raj Perumal Profile: Raj Perumal

Hi folks! So do you have trouble getting organized? Do you have a problem with note taking? Do you love the cloud?

Well Evernote is the answer for all of this! Evernote is a multi-platform application that stores your notes in the cloud and allows you to access these notes from any device! Think of something like Onenote but not Microsoft centric.

What about for those sensitive notes? You can either encrypt your notes so they are not readable by anybody else, or you can choose to store them locally on your computer instead of using the cloud!

Evernote is a great product and I encourage you to check it out. It also has integration with a lot of 3rd party products that are great too!

Read more about it here.

QNAP 859 Pro+ Rack Mount

Raj Perumal Raj Perumal Profile: Raj Perumal

Hi folks! As you know I’m a big fan of QNAP, but I wanted to talk about one of their higher end products.

The QNAP 859 Pro+ is a storage device from QNAP that allows you to rack mount it’s storage. Why is this great? Well there are a lot of small businesses out there that use racks instead of normal desktop models.

The QNAP rack mounted version of the 859 Pro+ is very quick and it’s benchmark speeds beat most of it’s competitors. It’s a great device for virtualization in an SMB environment.

BlackBerry PlayBook

Raj Perumal Raj Perumal Profile: Raj Perumal

Hi folks! So with the anticipation of the PlayBook’s arrival, RIM is looking for developers! This goes back to my concerns about the device.

A long time ago I mentioned that their biggest problem is software support. This is a problem that Apple and Google just don’t have with their devices. RIM is trying hard to get developers to come to them so they are even offering a free PlayBook.

I don’t know how well this would work, time will tell. Read more about it here.

Veeam Backup!

Raj Perumal Raj Perumal Profile: Raj Perumal

Hi folks! So if you follow my blog you have probably read about Veeam before.

It’s one of my favourite backup solutions for VMware environments. Veeam has been steadily improving it’s product offering and has always been at the forefront of virtual machine backup solutions in my opinion. Now they have gone a step farther.

Veeam is offering an NFR copy of Veeam free to VCP’s! Now that’s the way a company should do it! This will do wonders for the VCP community and I applaud Veeam for helping all of us VCP’s out!

You can read more about it here to get your free NFR key.
