As the health information exchange landscape continues to evolve, many hospitals and health care organizations are still trying to assess their readiness to exchange information.  A new online survey by the ECRI Institute, 10 Key Readiness Indicators for Exchange of Health Information, will help health IT leaders assess their progress toward engaging in HIE.

In addition to asking questions about the organization’s ability to receive lab results electronically and whether it will have a fully implemented electronic health record (EHR) system by 2011, the survey asks whether the organization’s leadership understands the importance of HIE, and if interoperability is considered a top strategic priority.

The aggregated survey results, which will be published in late summer, may shed some light on how long it will really take to build a national health network.
