The fall season has been a busy one for states launching their Medicaid EHR incentive programs: Last month, six states kicked off their programs, and this month another six opened for registration. As of Nov. 7, 2011, eligible professionals (EPs) and eligible hospitals in Arkansas, Delaware, Montana, New Jersey, New York and North Dakota can register for their state’s Medicaid EHR incentive program.

This brings the total number of states that have launched their EHR incentive programs to 39, with 23 of them having already made payments to EPs and hospitals who demonstrated meaningful use of EHR technology. The remaining states are scheduled to launch their programs in December 2011 and throughout 2012.

The Medicaid EHR incentive program is voluntary, but the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) estimates that every state will have a program launched at some point.
