The National Quality Forum has launched its Health Information Technology Advisory Committee, an initiative it announced last winter.

The forum, which endorses standards used in developing health care quality measures, also has embarked on several IT initiatives in the last year. HITAC will oversee those initiatives, evaluate what they develop and make recommendations to the full NQF board.

By forming the advisory committee, the forum will be able glean ideas directly from professionals on the front line, said Stacy Fiedler, NQF spokeswoman. “It is an opportunity to draw on expertise and experience from the field to inform and guide our HIT work.”

The HITAC roster includes a couple of names that are well known from the work being conducted at the federal level by the Health IT Policy Committee and Health IT Standards Committee. In addition, there are medical and IT professionals from hospitals, organizations and quality associations, reflecting NQF’s typical approach of collaborating with federal and state agencies and with stakeholders from across the health care industry.
