I have never been to HIMSS—the largest conference in the health IT industry—before, but from what I’ve heard it’s a chaotic, health IT wonderland. At least, that’s what my colleague Shaun Sutner, news and features writer for SearchHealthIT, said about last years’ HIMSS conference.

I’ve also heard that you can easily reach that 10,000-step goal on your wearable device just by walking around the exhibition floor. Considering the video gear I will be lugging around with me, all I can say is that it’s a good thing I’m a runner.

The bag alone weighs five pounds.

Despite this, I’m most excited to have the chance to speak with some of the industry’s leading experts and most knowledgeable CIOs.

So far, I’ve landed about nine interviews– that will happen over the course of the two days—with mostly CIOs of hospitals and healthcare organizations from around the country.

I’m eager to discuss a range of health IT issues with them, hear their opinions, and get their advice on all things health IT. That includes topics such as the Internet of Things, cybersecurity, EHR integration challenges, cloud, mobility management, data analytics, and more.

The CIOs on my schedule so far include the likes of Marc Probst, CIO of Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, Utah; Neal Ganguly, vice president and CIO at JFK Health System in Edison, New Jersey; Ramesh Sridharan, CIO at Rochester RHIO, an HIE in Rochester, New York; and more.

You can find SearchHealthIT’s live coverage from the conference here.
