What was Infosec 2009 really like?

To get an honest opinion of how an event is going, you sometimes have to go down the pub, and talk to the punters. So we did this and visited the Portcullis Arms, just outside Earls Court, to find out what the outspoken Clive Room thought of this year’s Infosec.

The new venue seemed to get the thumbs up from everyone I spoke, it seemed bigger, that’s for sure. Were there fewer stands… maybe it seemed that way because of the bigger halls and walkways, I’m sure that organisers Reed Exhibitions, said that numbers were up slightly.

As for visitor numbers, it looked as if they would be up by about 10% on last year’s 12,000 after the first two days.

Good news for the organisers then…. but I heard a lot people moan that the theatres for the keynotes were too small and they either couldn’t get in or had to queue for ages…. this needs looking at. Why do delegates turn up at conferences? Lets not kid ourselves its to visit vendors’ stands…. no its to network, meet colleagues and learn new things, so if they can’t get in the theatres, it is going to annoy them.
Along as Reed Exhibitions recognise this and fix it for next year, the new venue gets the thumbs up.
