Windows 10 backwards compatability

Windows 7
I am a gamer and upgrading to Windows 10 might just be an awful experience if none of the games I have spent so much money on will work on the new OS. I want to upgrade but I also want to keep from having to repurchase all my games just so that I can play them. Sure, the upgrade is free for those running 7 and 8 but what will we have to pull out of pocket in the long run? I love Windows 7 and being able to change the look with 3rd party themes and all around changes that can be applied by the users of the OS as well. What is going to set Windows 10 apart from Windows 7?
