I’m not sure as to exactly which Java courses you are referring. Can you provide some more detail? I’ve found that taking structured programming courses tends to teach the material in an orderly fashion so that the student gains a more solid understanding of the language than they would doing self-study. So, if you’re taking it to learn Java, then the benefits would be a better understanding of the Java programming language.

Courses alone will offer little benefit if you do not actively apply and use what you learn. This is the biggest issue with any course or set of instruction you go through. We learn a bunch of stuff, get a certificate of completion, and that's all well and good, but if we do not actively apply what we learn and seek to make it part of our "muscle memory", it entirely possible that you will ultimately get nothing out of the classes you take.

I would have to ask you why you took them to begin with?  To my knowledge, most folks take courses for a reason.  Maybe the question you should be asking, is not what benefits, but what you plan to do with it.  A skill put into practice can grow.  A skill learned, left dormant, fades into nothingness.
