Besides Google+ Hangouts On Air, what is the best online video broadcasting platform for holding a weekly social media watercooler (very informal) event? And what would be a preferred format for such informal event?

We use Brightcove, however that would probably lay as a more formal offering.

I think uStream, Livestream, and Google+ (like you mention) would be solid options, and if you are entering a specialized space, there may be unique communities that cater to that audience available, like Twitch.

VSee is another option, especially if you'll be sharing files. But it does sound like Google+ might be the best for your purposes.

As for format, I think having a defined host and topics/questions for discussion will be important even for the most informal event. No one likes dead air.

Thanks Ben.  You are right about having a defined host and topics.  The dead air seems to scare the heck out of my audience.  They basically fly in and out.
