Self high-five: GreenBytes says storage appliances now Backup Exec-qualified

John Hilliard Profile: John Hilliard

GreenBytes Inc., says its GB-X series of storage appliances are now qualified for Symantec’s Backup Exec.

According to the company, users of the GB-X series can use Symantec’s OpenStorage Technology. Symantec pitches OST as a way to offer tighter integration of backup and recovery functions between third-party appliances and Backup Exec.

The GB-X SAN and NAS appliance series – the GB-1000, GB-2000 and GB-4000 – include storage that is scalable from 8 TB to 360 TB, dedupe and a choice of 1GbE or 10GbE connectivity options that can be managed by the Backup Exec interface. The GB-X lineup also supports remote replication, thin provisioning and the ability to make storage snapshots, according to GreenBytes.

We’re all about having more choices to protect your data here at Data Defenders. But we continue to wait for the day when vendors wise up to what’s awesome: Protecting data with lasers.

Until then, we’ll make do with dedupe.
