By far the largest external software spending sector is Public Administration.  The expenditure is around £1.5bn.  Next in line, with a third of that outlay, are Telecommunication companies and Banks.

IT Spend as % Turnover – Architectural & Engineering Consultants

IT expenditure as a proportion of turnover falls into two groupings for Architects & Engineering Consultants.  Those employing less than 50 employees spend 3% of their revenues on IT whilst for the larger concerns it is 4%.  This contrasts the ratios for Business Services as a whole.  These progressively increase from 2% for micro firms (1-9 employees) to 5% for large organisations (1000+ employees).
