I’m really glad the National Consumer Council has asked the Office of Fair Trading to look at the preposterous end user licence agreement of big software providers including Adobe, Apple, McAfee, Microsoft and Symantec.

The industry’s get out of jail free card means consumers are not protected against poor workmanship and badly engineered products – which for software means software firms are allowed to charge us for using the buggy code they release to the market.

On a previous posting, I was accused of knowing nothing about how the software industry works.

Well, it is blatantly not working if it is allowed to sell flawed produced. Where else in commerce is that considered acceptable?

Let’s hope the OFT looks seriously into the NCC’s allegations and takes action to protect software users.
