Google debuts reseller effort; AWS grows managed service roster

Partnerships between cloud vendors and channel partners, ideally, aim to satisfy both parties: national vendors stand to gain marketing muscle, customization services and a local contact for customers, while partners can potentially seize new avenues for boosting cloud sales.

In a recent example of such a channel alliance, Google last week said it is making a reselling option available for partners of its Google Cloud Platform. The platform, a set of cloud-based services, lets partners build offerings ranging from websites to big data deployments.

Google launched its Google Cloud Platform Partner program in 2012. Under the program, service partners have been able to create custom applications and provide managed services around the platform’s technology stack. The reselling initiative gives those partners an additional way to build cloud revenue, which has proven a challenge for many companies transitioning to the cloud business model.

Google, in a blog post, said it is now accepting applications for the reselling option from “eligible, existing Google Cloud Platform services partners.” The company said it anticipates expanding the initiative to include new partner program applicants in early fall.

Successful applicants will be able to provision and manage customers through a new Cloud Platform reseller console, according to the company.
Google’s blog post quoted Sada Systems, a cloud computing and IT consulting firm with a long history with Google. The company was on board for the 2007 launch of Google Apps Premier Edition.

Tony Safoian, Sada Systems’ CEO, said the reseller console provides “deep insights into our customers’ engagement with the platform, allowing us to make informed recommendations in terms of best practices and opportunities available to our customers.”

Sada Systems work with Google Cloud Platform includes its dotMaps interactive mapping application. The system, released last year, is built on Google Cloud Platform and Google Maps for Work.

Other partners involved with the Google Cloud Platform include Cloud Sherpas, DMI and CI&T.

Amazon Web Services, meanwhile, is expanding its Managed Service Partner program, which debuted in March. The latest partner to join, BlazeClan Technologies, today announced that it obtained Managed Service Partner status following a third-party audit.

An AWS Partner Network (APN) member, BlazeClan also received Big Data Competency status within the APN Competency Program. The company provides cloud strategy services, migration services and managed services as well as big data and data warehouse offerings.
