Since this is a subjunctive clause. it should read “If it were a word…”

The word “our” incorporates the possessive, whereas Madonna does not – it’s just a name. And of course they’re right, “our’s” is not a word.
Makes me wonder about what’s been happening in American schools over the past few decades; apparently English is no longer taught.
