Web site or website?

Business writing, CIO, grammar, Quiz, spelling, Web site or website

Which is correct?
According to COPPA, _________ must require parental consent for the collection or use of any personal information of young site users.
a. Web sites
b. websites

Answer: a or b, depending on your chosen style guide

Explanation:
According to AP style, Web site is correct. (It’s one of those areas in which TechTarget style diverges from AP.)

However, styles differ. If you’d like to be AP-compliant, use Web site. If you’re required to follow some other style, find out the preference and stick with it. Otherwise, feel free to make up your own mind. Just do me a favor, please? Don’t change it every other time you use the term.
