Quiz: Writing for business — BlackBerries or BlackBerrys?

CIO, Mobile, Quiz, Business writing, BlackBerries or BlackBerrys, pluralization
Which is correct?
Companies that routinely issue _________ to employees should establish policies limiting device use.
a. BlackBerries
b. BlackBerrys

Answer: b

Because BlackBerry is a proper noun, the plural is not formed the typical way, by changing the y on the end to ies. (This is the rule for people’s names as well: You would say “There are four Cindys in my office” rather than “There are four Cindies in my office.”)
