Windows Admins – When setting Linux permissions be careful!

Karl Gechlik Karl Gechlik Profile: Karl Gechlik

I was auditing security on  a Linux webserver that a Windows administrator is overseeeing. I noticed that all the web dirtectories permissions were set at 777. Basically this means everyone has all access to the site. This is NOT GOOD. When I asked him about it he said I thought the permissions needed to be 777 to be accessible via the web. I redid his permissions and bought him a Linux book for dummies. The Linux admins now look after the box as well. Problem solved.
