Dear Lucee:

That's when one of my systems also hung. I hit the reset switch to force a reboot, at least partly to see what would happen (I, too, had an image backup ready to apply having had problems with SP1 on this same machine already), and to my astonishment, it picked up where it left off and finished installing the SP correctly. I did take a hickey in Reliability Monitor for an unexpected shutdown as a result of this maneuver but otherwise, everything worked fine. Sorry you didn't try the same thing, so I could know a bit better if it was just dumb luck on my part, or better design on Microsoft's part, this time around.

Thanks for posting,

Wish I could say the same. Tried automatic update and my system hung on 'restart' message. After 90mins, turned the computer off and rebooted with Vista recovery disk. A 'repair' highlighted and successfully fixed a 'boot mgr error' and a system restore has my computer back to how it was before the attempt to update with SP2. Now I wonder what would have occurred had I let it reboot into Vista rather than doing a system restore. Not sure I'm keen to try that route.
